Project ‘‘Virtualios elektroninio paveldo sistemos plėtra (VEPS)’’ (Eng.the development of virtual digital cultural heritage system)
Duration: Start – 3 February, 2010, end – 31 July, 2012. Duration – 30 months.
Aims and objectives: through the development of the virtual digital heritage system, ensure that the creation and dissemination of the digitized Lithuanian cultural heritage is being continued.
Target audience: all web users (citizens, government and educational institutions, etc.).
Partners: Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania (Project executor), Kaunas County Public Library, Ieva Simonaitytė Klaipėda County Public Library, Panevėžys County Gabrielė Petkevičaitė-Bitė Public Library, Šiauliai County Povilas Višinskis Public Library, The Wroblewski Library of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences, Vilnius University Library, Lithuanian Art Museum, Lithuanian Theatre, Music and Cinema Museum, the Departmnet of Archives of Lithuania.
Short summary: at the moment there already are over 3 million pages in the integrated virtual system data base. The pages include very valuable old books, newspapers, drawings, manuscripts and church metrics. After the implementation of the project, several goals will be achieved: the number of the project partners will be increased; the digitization will be continued (the aim is to digitize various archives and store them at the data base as well as the portal epaveldas.lt. There would be 295506 pages from the archives and other documents which are preserved at libraries and museums digitized; 17000 500 images which are preserved at LDM and pieces of music 11 000.); development of digital services.
Financial support: EU Structural Funds for the project ‘‘Informacinė visuomenė visiems’’ (Eng. information society for everyone) according to the 3rd priority's 3rd measure, of ‘‘Lietuvos kultūra informacinėje visuomenėje’’ (Eng. Lithuanian culture in the informational society).
